    homunculus-argument:

Some people are baffled by the concept that there really are people who actually like children but don’t want any of their own. “Childfree” doesn’t automatically mean someone who simply hates children. The thing is, I do like kids, and I will absolutely not compromise on my stance that each and every child deserves to grow up in a safe, stable and supportive environment. I also know that I get aggressive if I’m constantly sleep-deprived or overstimulated. People generally don’t regard me as someone capable of violence, but if I can’t get 15 minutes of silence each day and at least 5 hours of sleep every night, I will start throwing things. And I know kids won’t let you have that. Ever.

Kids deserve to grow up feeling safe and cherished, unafraid to express themselves and without worry that they’re unwelcome or unwanted. And that’s why they should be doing that somewhere else than in my fucking house.

I used to love drawing mickey or dora or whoever for kids on public transport in the Before times. I love making silly faces for babies. I love listening to little humans and earnestly supporting them. I am a fucking awesome auntie and will always be nice to children - after all, they didn’t ask to be born.

However… the only reason I am capable of any of that is all because at home I can put my head phones in, chill with my ornery little bastard of a cat, and not be subjected to hours of screaming and sticky hands. I’m just not built for it.

I didn’t realize just how paranoid your average USAmerican is until I started canvassing neighborhoods. There are so many ring doorbells, so many cameras, so many “no trespassing” signs. I can’t help but wonder how many of the people who willingly install spy cameras on their front porches go on about how scary the world of 1984 is, or about how China is a terrible surveillance state. Suburbanites happily created the surveillance state they’re so afraid of.

in this terrifying world you continuously have the power to offer someone else a little relief . why would you withhold that. do you remember what a little relief feels like? it feels like a lot

excuse me? are you suggesting i frolic directly into someone’s emotional space and assume what brings them relief, potentially causing more stress? are you encouraging people to reach past their own boundaries to help, increasing net suffering if it costs more than the other gains? surely not; that would be advocating for emotional self-harm.

this is a post about the woman who waived my late fee at the bank .

good for you, good for her, the wording on the initial post feels closer to blaming people who don’t reach out than celebrating those who do by a large enough margin that i feel the need to hit back

    you are a tar pit
